More About the Providence Regional Office

Supporting Jail Diversion and Trauma Recovery Programs

The Providence RO is supporting the development of a new court-sponsored jail diversion program for Veterans called Rhode Island Jail Diversion and Trauma Recovery. This program is aimed at diverting Veterans with trauma-related symptoms away from the criminal justice system and toward integrated treatment and recovery support services.

Helping Expand the Integrated Disability Examination System (IDES)

The Providence RO is also one of VA’s Integrated Disability Examination System (IDES) sites. This
joint program with the Department of Defense (DOD) aims to improve the disability rating process by creating a single disability exam conducted to VA standards and used by both VA and DOD, developing a single disability rating completed by VA that is binding on both departments, and paying VA benefits within 30 days of a Servicemember’s separation from service. Our RO is expected to process 15,000 new claims under this program.

Providing Access Points for Veteran Readiness and Employment Services

The Providence RO is proud to advance VA’s Veteran Readiness and Employment VetSuccess on Campus program. We have placed a full-time Veteran Readiness & Employment Counselor at two college campuses—Rhode Island College and Community College of Rhode Island—to serve all Veterans interested or enrolled in the program.
