Naming Beneficiaries
You can name anyone you choose as beneficiary of your life insurance including a person(s), your estate, a trust, or an organization or entity as beneficiary for your life insurance.
- To designate a Person or Persons as your beneficiary, you should provide their given name, SSN, date of birth, relationship to you and their contact information. If naming more than 1 beneficiary, be sure the shares add up to 100%.
- To designate a Minor as your beneficiary, you should consider naming a trust instead. The trust must exist before you name it. If the beneficiary is still a minor at the time of your death, we must pay a court-appointed guardian or VA-appointed fiduciary for the minor, which can delay payment.
- To designate According to Your Last Will and Testament, you should name your estate as beneficiary. We will only pay the estate if probated. Otherwise, we will pay other beneficiaries named or based on the order of precedence.
- To designate a Trust as your beneficiary, you should provide the full name and date of the trust (which must exist before you name it as beneficiary).
- To designate a Funeral Home as your beneficiary, you should name “Funeral Home” without the exact name which will allow us to pay whichever funeral home conducts your service. Any remaining funds will be paid to other named beneficiaries or by order of precedence.
- To designate an Organization or Entity as your beneficiary, you should provide the exact name, address and other contact information of the organization or entity.
