an intentionally self-inflicted injury or an attempt to inflict such injury?

Use of an illegal or controlled substance that was not administered or consumed on the advice of a medical doctor?

The medical or surgical treatment of an illness or disease?

A traumatic injury sustained while committing or attempting to commit a felony?

A physical or mental illness or disease (not including illness or disease caused by a wound infection, a chemical, biological, or radiological weapon, or the accidental ingestion of a contaminated substance)?

Based on your answers, you are not eligible for a TSGLI payment under the new law.

Why you are not Eligible:

Certain injuries are excluded from qualifying for the TSGLI benefit, including injuries that are the result of:

  • Intentionally self-inflicted injuries or attempt to inflict such injury
  • use of an illegal or controlled substance that was not administered or consumed on the advice of a medical doctor
  • Diagnostic procedures, preventive medical procedures such as inoculations, medical or surgical treatment for an illness or disease, or any complications arising from such procedures or treatment.
  • a traumatic injury sustained while committing or attempting to commit a felony
  • a physical or mental illness or disease (not including illness or disease caused by a wound infection, a chemical, biological, or radiological weapon, or the accidental ingestion of a contaminated substance)

Because you indicated that your injury was caused by one of these, you do not qualify for payment.

What You Should Do:

Please downolad and complete the Application for TSGLI Benefits. Once you have completed Section A, you should have your doctor complete Section B, then forward the completed application to your Branch of Service TSGLI Office listed on the application. You should also include copies of any medical documentation with your application.
