More About the Columbia Regional Benefit Office

Helping VA Complete More Claims

The Columbia RO office is one of 13 VA Day One Brokering Centers (D1BCs), which are specialized claims processing teams that are helping VA improve claims services nationwide, including Agent Orange-related claims.

Working with the U.S. Department of Defense on Integrated Disability Evaluation System

The Columbia RO is actively engaged in the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES), a joint program with the Department of Defense (DOD) to improve the disability rating process. The program aims to create a single disability exam conducted to VA standards and used by both VA and DOD, develop a single disability rating completed by VA that is binding on both departments, and provide payments of VA benefits within 30 days of a Servicemember’s separation from service. The Columbia RO is supporting IDES at five military bases in South Carolina.
