Benefits and Services

The VA New York Regional Office administers compensation, pension, and Veteran Readiness and Employment benefits for Veterans, Servicemembers, their families and survivors in 31 eastern New York counties. We also offer the following services:

  • Counseling about eligibility for VA benefits and how to apply
  • Information about VA health care and memorial benefits
  • Outreach to Veterans, including those who are homeless or at risk for homelessness and older, minority, and women Veterans

Veterans with Spinal Cord Injuries - Independent Living and Employment Opportunity

We've partnered with the James J. Peters VA Medical Center (Bronx, NY) in the Spinal Cord Injury Patient Care Unit, who is dedicated to promoting independent living and employment opportunities for our Veterans with spinal cord injuries.

Services provided include:

  • Assistive Computer Technology, and Home Improvements and Modifications Grant Guidance
  • Pain Management, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and, Vocational Counseling

Veteran Rapid Retraining Assistance Program (VRRAP)

On March 11, 2021, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) launched VRRAP for Veterans who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Veterans participating in VRRAP can receive education and training for high-demand occupations, which is determined by the Commissioner of Labor Statistics.  Veterans will receive up to 12 months of tuition and fees and a monthly housing allowance based on Post-9/11 GI Bill rates.
