Overseas Intake Sites

Germany BDD Site: Europe, Africa and the Middle East

The Germany BDD (GERBDD) office can be contacted via email at GermanyBDD.vbapit@va.gov or via telephone at DSN 590-8200 or commercial 06371-9464-8201. Pre-Discharge claims can be filed on a walk-in basis; no appointment is necessary. The GERBDD office is located in BLDG 3724 at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. Office hours are 0900–1200 and 1300–1500, Monday thru Thursday.

If you are stationed outside of the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC), you can participate in the BDD or Quick Start programs through the “Fly-in” claim process, which allows you to submit applications by fax or email before your in-person appointment.

Here’s what you need to do to participate in the Fly-in claim process:

  1. Contact the Landstuhl BDD office by phone or email to request all necessary information and forms.
  2. After you complete and return the application, a BDD officer will contact you by email to schedule an examination in Germany, or closer to your duty station, if possible.
  3. When you report for your examinations, you must bring a copy of your Service Treatment Records (STRs), which will be submitted to VA and not returned. BDD and Quick Start claims cannot be processed without the STRs.

In order to have your VA disability examinations completed in Germany via the Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) program, Service Members must be within 60 – 180 days of a known discharge date, have a complete copy of service treatment records (STRs) and have enough time in-country to complete the medical examination process (which may involve multiple specialty clinics).

Service Members who are 1 – 59 days to separation from service, can file their claim via the Quick Start program. Applications for the Quick Start program can be submitted to the Germany BDD office. A complete copy of STRs is needed at the time of application. VA disability examinations for the Quick Start program will be scheduled in the US.

Service Members who are Reservist, activated under Title 10, or National Guard (activated under Title 32), are also eligible to participate in the Pre-Discharge process.
